A tool for comparing your own Instagram and Threads exports. One archive shows who does not follow you back at the time of export; two dated snapshots show added and missing usernames. Manual ZIP analysis is free and does not require your social account password.

Understanding results
The tool compares your following list with your followers list from the official export and shows everyone you follow who doesn't follow you back.
Compare follower lists from two exports of the same profile on different dates. Unfollow Checker shows usernames missing from the newer list and names added since the older one. One export shows current relationships, not past unfollows. Comparisons cannot prove why a name disappeared, identify an exact unfollow time, or capture someone who followed and left between exports. Manual ZIP imports are read in your browser without your Instagram password; optional sign-in saves extracted lists and results to your account.
“Not following back” means you follow an account that is absent from your followers list in the same export; it may never have followed you. An unfollower comparison finds usernames present in an older followers list but missing from a newer one. The two groups answer different questions.
One export shows who follows you and who does not follow back at the time of that export. It cannot reconstruct an earlier follower list. Import it as your starting snapshot, then import a newly requested export of the same profile later to compare changes. Keep the original ZIP as a backup.
Instagram does not provide an unfollow notification or a built-in unfollow history. You can check whether a known account currently follows you in your followers list. To establish a change, you need an earlier record, such as a saved list or export. Comparing two exports is one way to find missing usernames; it cannot establish why they disappeared.
No. A comparison only places a missing username between the two export dates. Dates attached to follower records are not unfollow timestamps. Someone who followed and left between snapshots may not appear in either list, so that change cannot be recovered from those files.
A missing username alone cannot prove an unfollow or a block. A renamed, deactivated or deleted account, or an incomplete export, can also affect the comparison. Check the profile in the official app and verify that both exports cover the same account and data categories before drawing conclusions.
Results describe the data in the imported archive, not the current Instagram or Threads screen. Refreshing the page or downloading the same export again does not create a new snapshot. For a fresh manual comparison, request a new export from Meta and import that ZIP after your earlier snapshot.
Exporting your data
The tool works with Meta's official export. How to get it:
- Open export. In Threads: Settings → "Export your information". Or in Instagram: Settings → Accounts Center → "Your information and permissions" → "Export your information".
- Create a new export. You'll see your past exports here. Tap "Create export" → choose a profile → "Export to device".
- Set the options. Date range — All time; format — JSON or HTML (both are supported); "Customize information" → select Connections → Followers and following. This is required for Instagram. Select Threads only if you also want Threads results; Your Instagram activity → Following is not required.
- Start the export. Tap "Start export".
- Download the archive. You'll get an email when the file is ready. To download — repeat step 1: a download link will appear on the same page.
Both JSON and HTML exports are supported inside the original Meta ZIP. Upload the whole archive without unpacking it; individual followers_1.json or following.html files are not accepted. HTML can include export-date metadata, while JSON is also suitable for analysis. You do not need to convert between them.
A shorter date range can leave out older follow relationships and make the lists incomplete. Choose All time and include Followers and following. All time helps collect the available relationship records; it does not turn one export into a history of everyone who ever unfollowed you.
Upload the original ZIP containing all the numbered files. The checker combines supported follower files within that archive and removes duplicate usernames. Do not extract only the first file. If Meta provides separate ZIP downloads, this does not mean they are automatically combined; request an export limited to the needed follower data.
Meta's preparation time varies, so we cannot guarantee that an export will be ready within an hour. Check the status in Accounts Center and wait for Meta's notification that the file is ready to download.
Import troubleshooting
Check that you selected the correct profile, Followers and following, and All time when requesting the export. Upload the fully downloaded original ZIP, not a cover page, a screenshot or an extracted file. If it still fails, contact us with the error text and filenames first; do not send the entire personal archive.
The export reflects an earlier moment than the live app. Also check the profile, platform, date range and whether all follower files are present. Missing categories and account changes can affect results. If the difference is unexpected, request a fresh All time export before using the list to decide whom to unfollow.
Request a smaller export with only the follower and following data you need, leaving out photos, videos and messages. Wait for the download to finish, keep the browser tab open during analysis and try a desktop browser if your phone runs out of memory. Large archives depend on the device’s available resources.
Threads followers
Yes, when your ZIP includes supported Threads follower and following lists. Instagram-only data cannot answer a Threads question. The platforms have separate relationships; select the relevant Threads data or request a separate Threads export when needed.
An Instagram export does not necessarily contain Threads follower lists. Include the relevant Threads information when requesting the export, or request an export for your Threads profile. If you want to compare Threads changes, both snapshots need usable Threads data. Missing Threads data does not mean you have zero followers.
No. Following someone on Instagram does not prove either of you follows the other on Threads. The checker analyzes the supported lists separately for each platform. Compare Threads snapshots with Threads snapshots from the same profile; an Instagram-only list cannot replace a missing Threads baseline.
Security & privacy
Manual analysis reads your ZIP in your browser; the archive is not uploaded to our servers. Without signing in, results stay in this browser. When you sign in, extracted usernames, available dates and export details are saved to your account for use across devices. This account storage is separate from local ZIP processing.
Unfollow Checker never asks for your Instagram or Threads password. Meta may ask you to sign in on its own website to request or download your export. Signing in to Unfollow Checker is optional and enables saving extracted results to your account.
Manual analysis reads the ZIP you choose without logging in to Instagram or Threads or performing follows and unfollows. This avoids sharing social account credentials. It does not guarantee account safety or the accuracy of incomplete exports; review the results before acting.
- Sign in to your Unfollow Checker account and open Data & deletion.
- In Danger zone, click Delete account.
- Type DELETE in the confirmation window, then click Delete forever.
Your profile and every export saved in your account will be deleted right away. This cannot be undone. This does not delete your Instagram or Threads account.
Data stored on this device stays until you clear it. To remove the local copy as well, clear this site’s data in your browser settings.
Your email, user ID, and deletion time remain in a restricted administrator-only deletion log.
No. Follower and following lists do not identify profile visitors or measure who reads your posts. A person who does not follow back is not necessarily an inactive or fake account. These exports cannot establish why someone follows you or how engaged they are.

Limits & the project
Instagram may restrict follow and unfollow actions. No fixed daily or hourly number guarantees that restrictions will not apply. Review accounts and unfollow manually in the official app. If Instagram shows a warning or restriction, stop and follow the instructions in the app.
No. The tool compares lists and displays results. You review the accounts and make any follow or unfollow changes yourself in the official Instagram or Threads app.
Manual uploads and comparisons of your Instagram and Threads exports are free.
Your browser stores analysis snapshots and settings. When you are signed in, results are also saved to your account. Clearing browser site data removes the local copy; use the service’s data controls to delete saved account results.
